Quinta’s Progress

When I first  met Quinta she could not take even a few steps on her own. She needed assistance to move around unless she was crawling. After her operation, Quinta is a totally different kid.

Her left foot was stuck in the pointed down position and even with therapy it could not be corrected. Her other foot was less severe, but when she tried to walk she had to step on her tip toes because of the tightness in her Achilles tendons.

After the surgery Quinta is completely mobile. She still uses crutches to get around, but she is totally independent. Before, if she wanted to move around outside or go to the bathrooms needed she needed assistance, but now she can get around by herself. During the school holidays, some parents bring their kids home for a week or two, which allows them to spend time with their families. Since Quinta came to PKC her mother has not taken her home to stay. Last week Quinta’s mom came to visit her and was so excited to see how much Quinta has improved since her surgery that she took her to visit her grandmother and other relatives so that they could see with their own eyes how much she has improved. It was great to see Quinta’s mom finally being proud of her daughter and acknowledging her accomplishments.

It’s been great to see her joy after gaining mobility and I am excited to see how she continues to improve.
