Today the doctors from Kijabe came to town for their monthly clinic. We brought Dinah and Jabal along for their post surgery check-ups and also brought Manu Kipruto, Rooney, Margaret and Grace for follow-up appointments.

Manu had a bit of a rough time last week and so we brought him to get checked up. He had a long seizure and needed oxygen for a day to get his vitals back to normal. They said that the seizure was caused by an infection that he has from a past surgery that didn’t heal well. The doctors at the clinic took a look and told us to continue with his antibiotics and give them a call if the infection persists after he finishes his dose.

Manu’s mom stopped by the clinic to see Manu and talk to the doctors.
Dinah finally got her casts off! She was very nervous when they started cutting through the plaster, but the look on her face when she got to look at her feet for the first time was priceless.
Jabal recently had another tumor removed on his foot. He went for his follow-up after the operation. The doctor was surprised to see how quickly it had healed and told us to keep observing him and to come back if he gets any new tumors.
Grace went for a follow-up for her spine. We were able to get her medicine for Tuberculosis in January when she first came to the house, but now the doctors are a bit worried because the curving of her spine seems to be getting more severe as time passes. They told us to take her to a clinic in Kijabe in September so that she can see the head doctor and he can give us the next steps.
Rooney went for a check up as well. The doctors were a bit worried about his hips, but we were able to get him an X-ray for the doctor to look at. The doctor said everything looks good and that we should continue physical therapy and bring him back in six months for another check up.
Margaret is one of the new students at our school. She had an infection in her hip when she was little that caused her left leg to stop growing, so it’s a little shorter and she uses a stick to support her when she is walking. The doctors fit her for a special shoe and we will pick it up at the next clinic. If that helps with her pain she feels when she is walking then she won’t need an operation at this time.
We also had told quite a few kids to meet us at the clinic and four of them showed up.
Pastor Emmanuel, who is a pastor of a church in West Pokot, brought two kids (that also are both named Emmanuel) that we had met at a medical clinic to see the doctors.

Emmanuel needs an operation to correct his legs and allow him to be able to walk easier.
Emmanuel was given some medication because they think that the weakness in his legs is being caused by a calcium deficiency. He will come back in six months for a check up.
Stacy has Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bones) and was seen by the doctors. They gave her a prescription for some medication to help strengthen her bones and referred her for an operation. She has a recent fracture so she wasn’t in a great mood today, but we were able to get her some pain killers and will hopefully be able to get her an operation soon.
I met Abel at the District Hospital in Kapenguria where Lillian was hospitalized a few weeks back. He has bilateral CTEV (clubbed foot) and also needs an operation. He is such a sweet little guy.
It was great to get to spend time with all these sweet kids today. I am excited to see how they will all improve after their surgeries. Please keep these precious little ones in your prayers.
